Singhasth Kumbh Mela 2015 | Dos and Donts
Hoaaaa...yeh...yes!
yes!! yes!!! ...Back from Nasik! After having the dip in first Shahi Snaan -
The Royal Bath and that too Royal Way of Kumbh Mela 2015 on 29th August!. Shahi snan is the auspicious day to
take a dip in the holy kund.
The singhasth kumbh mela -- I got a chance to stay with the sanyasis or mahants
of gaddi suthre shah in their tents built up across the pond of triyambakeshwar
temple. The pond was full of fish and one of the activities I enjoyed the most
was feeding them. You must be wondering I have heard of these words -- the kumbh
ka mela (the image of siblings getting lost in a bollywood movie of yester
years comes up in the mind) but dont know what they mean. What is the meaning
of singhasth? What is kumbh mela all about? What is gaddi suthre shah? My
upcoming posts will reveal it all and some of the very interesting stories -
demystifying various myths about sadhus, tantriks, our religion and culture. I
would say this is an experience that can only be lived but will ensure that
those who are missing this wonderful culturally enriching journey live it
through my posts and photographs.
This one is a
quick post mainly about dos & donts and may prove helpful if you are
planning a trip to nasik kumbh mela.
Dos and Donts
- Always carry an umbrella and raincoat with you. The
weather is fickle there - it can rain any time and then be again as sunny as it
was the other second.
- Carry a good pair of walking shoes. You may be
required to walk a lot - may be up to 4 kilometers. The places are not far, but
police has closed and diverted the routes. On last day I got down in front of
railway station and have to walk first 2 kms straight, then u-turn and again 2
kms to reach the platform. I tried to enter from three different entrances, but
all were closed. Only the fourth one allowed the cars to come straight to the
gate. My bad luck I was not able to hit the fourth one. On your visit, you never
know which one is open.
- Try to reach any of the akharas or place of stay 2
days before the shahi snan. Entry for outside vehicles is restricted and you
may need to walk long distances with the entire luggage.
-
All the maal godowns and storage space on the railway station has been
converted into waiting rooms, so ample of space to rest. If you want to capture
rural India, culture or sadhus, this is the place for you.
-
If you are accompanying elderly people, who are unable to walk long
distances, kindly research about your alternate routes to your destination beforehand.
Confirm with couple of locals, police or ashram people before making a move. As
no one has a concrete and confirm information. However, good part is everyone
is very cooperative.
- You do not have to worry about food. There are
ample free food kiosks set up by akharas or ashrams. In addition, the local
food and delicacies are not very costly. If you are on a lookout for a 5 star,
sorry nowhere to eat. The local eateries are very good, neat, clean and
hygienic. That is a promise. You might need to pay a small up price for a
bottle of coke or mineral water but that can be accomodated for I believe. Given
that Nasik is a small village and we can keep that MRP rule only for metros.
Also if you are on lookout for branded mineral water like bisleri, himalaya or
aqua fina the word is sorry. But you will find good mineral water and not big
brands. I drank it and I am now writing this, so it has been tried and
tested... :)
- Leave for railway station from your place of
boarding with at least 3-4 hours of buffer time in hand. You may struggle to
find the mode of transport or weather may play spoilsport.
-
Generic stuff such as small knife, rope, first aid kit, etc. to be carried
without a say. Also, keep few plastic bags, where you can dump your wet
clothes, if you do not find a place or adequate time to dry them.
-
Please, Please, Please do not make fun of the sanyasis, sadhus or yogis you
come across. Even if you strongly believe that they are dhongis or fake, please
don’t unnecessarily indulge with them and try to show them down. They are a
very proud lot and will not take offense of any kind. You may find some of them
very strange, especially the nagas, but they are like that only. The kumbh mela
brings all of them to common platform and people like us get a chance to
witness various shades of our culture. Please appreciate the painting with
these natural shades and don’t try to paint your own colours. You will love it
is my promise.

Soliloquy | An honest intrapersonal talk

Street lamp lighting the road at 12 noon, so what if there is sunlight. Aur suraj ko diya bhi toh deekhana hai, who will do it, at least our responsible government is doing this effectively. I don't care who so ever has to pay for the electricity bill for this. It is not showing up in my bill. And some say, it is being paid from my tax money, but otherwise also I have to pay that. I will penalise government for this by evading tax, else my fake rent receipts will be unutilized. Ab kya mein job se off lekar, iss street light ki complaint karne jaaoon? What will happen, have to face those sick tobacco chewing good for nothing sarkari babus. They will pout their red stained mouth and tell me, "dekh rahey hai", so I am also doing the same sitting here and not getting bothered. Chal let's get back to work, have to finish this definitely by today EOD... and the day goes on as usual...

Phases of life

The three layers symbolize phases of life. The dark at the base, represents the aged and the experienced. Not liked by many because of their wisdom talks, specially the young minds criticize them of generation gap. They speak truth, which is bitter. But these elderly form the base of our families. Disputes surfacing after the death of elderly is not uncommon. The nutritional qualities of the dark chocolate which benefit our health is the advise of the elderly.
The middle layer is the young generation. Experianced experiances of life, but lot is yet to come. They are liked rather loved by most, symbolized by the sweet taste. They are liked by big as they are some mature and loved by young as they are some kid.
The top white layer represents purity. They are our kids, their hearts are the purest thing on this planet. Canvas displays the painting as the artists have played with the colours in very much the same way we have nurtured the child brains. Complaints about the misbehavior by the young are actually our complaints to self. If we have painted the canvas with black colour, we can't expect shades of yellow, red or green.

Sita Ram Diwan Chand | Khana Talks

This poori delhi mein world famous sitaram diwan chand chole bahture wala is simply good. I being a hardcore desi ghee fan for Punjabi food, is turned off at food items cooked in non desi ghee. I have a very strong notion of, how can one even think of making chole in something other than desi ghee. But all appreciation for this brilliant eatery, I simply love it.
Just few miles from my place, it also serves a purpose of quick bite for me. This eatery is located in paharganj, chuna mandi. Also a walking distance from R.K. Ashram metro station. This is the place I trust for non desi ghee cooked delicious authentic Chole Bhature.
Another good thing is that chole don't have a strong taste of soda, which is commonly used in chole which the vendors(halwai) suppress with strong flavoured spices. Edible soda is used to soak chole a night before so the next morning they are soft and get a good texture. You must be aware of this technique if you cook, else check out with your nani or dadi or any halwai. Sitaram's chole are mildly flavoured and very few traces of soda.
Hygiene is another score point, which is a must for any eatery. I will score them down on sitting, no option for that. No seats, stand and eat. I would prefer eating more, if they have option to sit and eat. I am tired standing after eating only one serving. At least they are losing two orders every time I visit them as I want to order more, but irritated at standing. Also I don't let the one accompanying me to order, as again I have to wait for him till that person finishes off.
Score up for pricing, aptly priced. They charge extra money if you want more chole apart from which they have given in a serving. But I think they are not strict at it as I was able to get some free chole...smile emoticon
The person, who sits at cash counter is not very welcoming, looking at his face expression it seems as if he is not selling tasty food, but serving a life sentence. Dude, please smile up you are doing a real good job of serving people with such a legacy Delhi food.
So in sum total with all the plus and minus result is plus..so a good place to eat out.

Duty towards our right

Rains put Delhi drainage system to shame. Water gushing out from the pothole trying to break open the lid. Never experienced such a horrible drive in my life. It was heavily raining outside and inside, though driving an AC car sweat was trickling down my forehead. It was because of the fear that my car may falter submitting to high water level. I was consistently pressing heavy on accelerator to keep the engine in life and clutch as well to keep the speed under control.
I was also wondering, if this is the condition of the capital of the country, then what about the cities of notorious states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, etc. Delhi is face of the country, and I have a bad feeling to have an ugly face.I don't want to blame system, administration, kejriwal, modi or congress for this. Like we all do our duties to make our home beautiful, similar must be the efforts towards our city, state and country.
In a typical Indian family like father earns money and mother cooks food, children assist them as per their capabilities. Similar should be our efforts towards our Nation. Neither am I going to repair the drainage system, nor you but we can do what best we can do. Like we can dispose of our wastes through proper channels, so at least our drainage system is not clogged with it. We can follow traffic rules, be more courteous towards others. Stop breaking rules, even if no one is looking. So that all the energy can be diverted towards resolving issues and not implementing checks on intelligent citizens like us.
While on the road it reminds me of my school days. Traffic police playing the role of headmaster who is looking through the space between his glasses and forehead to find that mischievous boy who is planning to bunk a class or trying to jump the wall as we try to jump the signal. When will we grow up? Why do we need someone to check our actions. This is a serious question on our upbringing and education system that even after completing 10+2, adding graduation, post graduation or even doctorate, we are still worst than a preschooler. Preschooler is ignorant and innocent, but that doesn't apply to us.Let's make this place a better place to live by just doing whatever we are doing in a right way.
It is more important to do things in a right way then doing things right. Doing it right, is not our right but our duty towards our rights.

Toota toota ek parinda
Common scenario in office, you fly in your thoughts and pulled
back by subordinate or senior or most of the time your boss. This devil(though
may be your best friend, but at that moment appears like devil only) shouts
very loud and clear and you are pulled back to dharatal (ground), "environment
will be down after 30 mins, pehley yeh kaam khatam karlo fir baat kartey hai".
Yes, you are
thinking very right; these people are the killers of creativity. Might be
something like this has just crossed your mind "Khud toh kuch hat ke
soch nahi saktey, wahi kitar pitar client ki haan mein haan milatey rahengey and expects the same from us".
Give me a hi-5, if I was able to guess your mind. These monsters are present
everywhere, you just need to be wary of them.
Creativity is
fluency of ideas, flexibility of ideas. Most of them even won’t understand what
you tell them and may offend you on the face stating, "yeh kuch bhi
bolta hai, pagla" mind you take it as a compliment. Inability of
someone to understand you can never be considered as your inability to
perform.
Sometimes, I am
very convinced by the thought that the laziness and creativity are inversely
proportional. I think the lazy person in his hatred for doing work, tries to find
out the quickest way to accomplish the task in a perfect way and come out
with what is known as exceptional.
So friends, take off and fly!!!

Versatile Ganpati
Ganpati or Ganesha, is the most versatile god of the
modern times. Ganpati is present in so many styles, such diverse presentation
that it appears that as if we have fonts for writing we have shapes for ‘gannu’.
I am referring to ganpati as ‘gannu’ here, my personal customization for this versatile
god after looking through so many forms. We rarely get to see the same sketch
of ‘gannu’. Try observing through the wedding cards, mementos, small sculptures
on desks or car dashboards you will never find the same one, but yes you will
find the similar ones. Until date, I have not seen such diverse sketches for
any deity and I will not be wrong in saying for any entity that exists. ‘Gannu’
gives artists the freedom to design new forms, apply ample of customization.
I have never seen anything more than ganpati on any desk. Every
second desk that sports some showpiece is must to have a ‘gannu’. Does that
mean ganpati is the most worshipped God? However, no extremist group supporting
ganpati, though you get to hear lot of ‘Ram’ and ‘Rahim’, but the ‘gannu’
steals the show.
Might be such diverse forms helps each individual to relate,
and can be one of the reasons of popularity of this celebrity. Round is such a
beautiful shape with no corners. Corners usually hurt and this no corner or
round deity never places anyone at corner and manages to be at the center. It is
a belief that ganesha loves food. Food is an integral part of any celebration,
and who would mind inviting someone who loves food at the event. This happy go
lucky person leads a life, which a lot of us aspire to. A fat guy offended by
the name of elephant, often considers a compliment when referred by the
elephant head deity. The round belly with the elephant head is artist’s
paradise to tweak and invent new forms and still present the original. This god
is unique and beyond comparison, might be this is one of the reasons behind the
custom of worshipping ganesh on the first place.
A basic research on internet reveals there are 108 names of
ganesha. No surprise if the number is even thousand times attributed to the
fact how each individual uniquely connects to ‘gannu’.
Gannu you are rock star!

What is my style?
Can I have my own proverbs or phrases? People
having good understanding of English grammar rules or who are well read,
sometime correct me by saying that this is not a correct phrase or not a right
usage, when I ask where this is written or why is this wrong? Then I get to
hear "I can’t explain", when they can’t explain might be they
themselves don’t know about it. Also if you yourself don’t know it, how can you
try to correct, irony!!!
If one has its own style, then ought to break
rules and in doing so and will define new rules and styles. The fear of being
poked by people for incorrect usage, which actually is not the case at times,
keeps a lot away from developing their own style.

Lo kal lo baat issey kehtey hai meet
Ambipur
Indiblogger Meet , Delhi, July 2013
Mail notification beep on my phone waked me
up, I prayed “All should be going well with code deployed to the production” in
anxiety, I immediately checked the mail. My thick fingers never let me click on
the right point on my touch screen phone, and BAU I landed into personal inbox
instead of official one. I don’t know why, but the Indiblogger mail caught my
attention, and I gave a thought to read it, instead of usual practice of
sending it to archive.
Have received couple of Indiblogger meet
notifications before, and have always ignored the mails, thinking “Kuch
bhi Time pass karnegey”, and the sponsor company executives will come
and discuss blah, blah. I was pretty sure that the boring slides will bounce on
the wall and I don’t even have hairs on my head to pull off. Then I read
through the line, “is it free?” this line caught my attention and I buzzed, “tumhari
boring baatein toh mein paise leke bhi nhi sunoonga”. Office presentations
and meetings are already enough from Monday to Friday to suck your blood, and I
can’t think of one more such session on weekend as well.
Next what caught my attention was Lunch. So
the crux here is FREE lunch at HYATT, unbelievable. This is contradictory to
what I have learned in decade of my corporate career that there is no free
lunch. Are these guys NUTS? I am sure these corporate asses must have put it on
some weekday and would expect me to come missing my office. Bloody I am blogger
by choice and not by profession that I can make it an official event to attend.
Again, I have been given left, right and center, it is on 6th July which is
Saturday.
“Nipun, you are dreaming, as it is midnight
and all this is seriously too much” passed my mind and I rubbed my eyes and
confirmed that I am awake and not at all dreaming, but then also, I wasn’t
ready to believe, after all a pessimist in me was not accepting it. I thought
lets register, even if it is a dream also then let me attend it in dream only,
and also till they don’t ask about my Credit Card details, it is fine.
I started with the registration process
from my phone only, and what???No more surprises please!!! Now they are asking
for my Tshirt size, so they are going to give me one that as well.
1:30
pm, 6th July, Saturday:
I in a celebrity style, took my car in
front of HYATT, and pulled down the glass and confirmed “Indiblogger event yehi hai na?”
The guy came to me with a card in his hand and his body language said, as he
was offering me Valet parking. But to my respect, as soon as I stepped out of
the car, guy said “Sir, valet Parking is for 100 Bucks, wahan aagey MCD ki parking hai,
kya aapko gadi deni hai”.
Passing thoughts ... %%*$%$%^& (I hope
you can interpret as certain words to be censored on public blogs)
I the Head of stinginess, called up my
friend working in GAIL, next building and requested him for free car parking.
After all it is Government’s parking and I got it constructed, after all it was
my tax money which was used to pay the contractor.
Entered the Hall, and everyone was standing
out in groups of 2 to 6, waiting for the entry and registration. All age groups
from kids of 15 years old to Octogenarians could be seen. Gosh! I don’t know
even a single person out here, how will I spend four hours. No offence to
anyone, but everyone was looking a different variety or sample, “do I
also look so ajeeb, like all these? No yaar, tu toh smart hai, you have an
attitude, I consoled myself.”
Ambience was good, and it has to be good,
it was HYATT, and no other street side restaurant. Slowly I started feeling
good, it was not the ambience effect, nor the confectionery placed, but...any
guesses? C’mon think like a guy. Some real beautiful faces, to die for, no I
never believed in that, agar marr hi gaye toh beauty toh Padosi k pass reh
jaayegi, so always never say die attitude.
But honest confession, “Love at First
Sight” faces and beauty took my heart away. I want to flirt with that girl in
pink, no no... that one in white is looking divine, but she is bit
fat....whoooo, that in purple, what a beauty...ahhh, thats not done, she is
wearing an engagement ring.
I was just deciding on for the girl, with
whom I am in love, and going to be in for next few hours and heard the voice
“Please come from this side, and enter your registered mail id”. My past
experience with beautiful voice is an ugly face. So turned around in
disappointment, but again god was on my side today. I saw two very beautiful
faces, “Saala, fir se love at first sight ho gaya, ab kya karoon? Kissey hua
hai,” I am again confused.
Went to one table already hosting two
decent looking guys, I could easily tell for one of them looking at his face,
that he is a Software Professional. Yes, “shakal per hi chipka hota hai” and he
confirmed stating “I work for CSC, Noida”. Two more guys joined my table, and then
two girls, I thanked god “Kuch toh charm hai table par”.
Please, Please, Please don’t form any wrong
image about my character; I don’t know anyone till now and all strangers, so
imagine what thoughts will pop up my mind. I can bet even if you would have
been in my shoes, you also won’t be thinking about the economic downturn world
has faced, or how Lehman Brothers could have avoided bankruptcy in 2008
recession. I am making honest confessions.
Finally someone took the mike and started
with the program. Wow!!! It can’t be better than this, no formality at all. The
start of the event washed away all my perceptions, the guy hosting was doing a
wonderful job, I don’t remember his name but seriously impressed by his
diction. What a wonderful speaker. Then came the guy Nihar(if I remember his
name correctly) with a wonderful head bang event. I was again jealous of him,
the guy had long hairs and the way he was bouncing his head was amazing, on top
of that the type of energy he sprang across the audience, he could make me 110
kgs guy dance, so Hats off to you Nihar.
Yaar, they are distributing gifts as well,
the girl who bounced her head well has won a Bluetooth headset for her.
Actually I might be wrong she might have won something else, though with every
prize they distributed, they announced name of chroma or any corporate
sponsoring that. But they distributed so many gifts, that it is tough to
remember that who won what. I am sure they must have looted some store a night
before. Prize ranged from 500 bucks in cash to Bluetooth headset to Mobile
phones to Playstation to smart watches, list was endless. Most Prized gift was
a cookie and bowl of sauce.
I loved the introduction part; I was the
one before the event who was most scared of it. It was not a convectional one,
but was done on a very random and interesting basis.
“Yaar, kya smart log exist kartey hai duniya mein” I said to myself. I was literally impressed with the kind of work
people are doing, the level of intellect they have, salute to the spirits I
witnessed that day.
She is a doctor and she is not servicing patients,
I am sure you must be thinking, then what a waste, but she is servicing
humanity. She has been behind rehabilitating sex workers and given her cushy
job of a doctor, where she could have made millions.
That guy has a blog and helping people
solving community problems, this is not my personal problems, which most people
like us say and move ahead.
I got inspired by this girl. She is a live
example of make your weakness your strength. The girl started writing a blog,
to overcome the fear she had for writing. She always used to fear, if I write I
will make grammatical errors, incorrect language and will be away from other
technicalities of writing. But she rose over all this and wow man, she is a
blogger.
God, I will go mad, what a talent under one
roof, idiot of me who has always missing such meets, just for the sake of
dating someone so useless.
This poetess very beautifully introduced
her blog and recited a “Kavita” in Hindi. The way she
recited, my love for the mother tongue increased many folds, and felt bad about
how we ruin it using slangs.
And now my favorite, yes, Lunch Time!!! Need not say about the food, I never ate so
much chicken biryani in my life. I pushed myself from 105 kgs to 110 kgs in 40
minutes of lunch time. Amazing things won’t stop for me today; I suddenly
bumped into man, heading for biryani. “Hey” he said to me, which was quite
decent. I instead of him, would have said it like “Mote, bhookhar, mein bhi line
mein hoon, araam se aa”. This guy is no other than whose blog I follow once
in a while, so I immediately recognized him, and since then we had a bond of
friendship. We exchanged cards at the end of the event, and what??? He is my neighbor.
He lives next door to me, this is seriously funny.
Post lunch was another new event. The best
thing about this event was that the guys kept us engaged in one activity or the
other and kept on distributing prizes.
Now, most of the guys were not sitting at
the original seats, and networking was on the peak. There was one more reason
to this, as now some corporate from ambipur took the charge. Though the lady
tried her best to make it fun and interactive, she couldn’t meet the standards
set by our original host, hats off to you man, I am sorry I forgot your name.
This new girl at my seat, she introduced
herself as she like to bitch about. Also she has a blog name on these lines. She
is a fantastic girl, very clear in mind; I was impressed by her personality and
much more when I went through her blog. She wrote, nothing out of the world,
just “bitching” about what she feels, this is how she described her blog. But, rather
I should say these are honest confessions or thoughts about whatever she feels
about the things coming her way in life.
Now, everyone is wearing their creative
hats. Each of four fragrance distributed has been formed into two teams in
total of eight teams. Each team has to perform a skid. And now was the time,
when we were introduced to Smelly cats, White doggy doing white potty, AmbiMan,
Ambi Rajnikant. I also got to know, that ambipur is not only the Room freshner,
but also a ZombieCure . Zombies were turned into normal humans on spray of ambipur.
“C’mon
yaar fainkney ki bhi had hoti hai, mana ki event ambipur ne sponser kiya hai
iska yeh matlab thode hai ki Ambipur doggy ki potty ko bhi fragrant bana dega”.
I was ROFL, gosh yeh kisi ko soojh bhi kaise sakta hai. People came up with any
wild idea one can imagine to promote ambipur. I am sure the creators of
ambipur, would never be able to think of so many advantages of it. In fact,
there might be fight going on in heaven between the gods and the demons, that
why we fought over amrit after Samundra Manthan, asli cheez toh yeh
hai.
Event organisers were amazing chaps, all so
cheerful, energetic, humble and co-operative. I don’t know the name, but I am
fan of the girl clicking photographs, I know, what going in your bloody mind,
please clean up. I am saying so, because she clicked a real good pic of mine.
The events were amazing like best pose,
best tweet, best pic, person sporting funky T-shirt, your lucky number and many
more; I don’t even remember all as they just wanted to throw away gifts, so
created any contest on earth. I don’t remember the winning entries, except for
the best pic. Obviously, the pic of a shit won the best pic contest. I can’t
think of anything smellier than that.
Greedy cells of me thinking, “Yaar,
T-shirt ka size toh liya tha, but abhi tak di kyu nahi, ab toh group pic bhi
click kar li hai”. And there is
a counter at the end, yes! It has that Tee, wow! White one, my personal
favorite. Suddenly “yaar kahin yeh substandard size ki hogi toh fit nahi aayegi”
sad thoughts came to me, as I have been often victim due to my Big Build, and I
never admit that I am fat.

“Idiot how you can think of substandard size”, I said to myself, hurray!!!...Tee-shirt is a standard one and fits
me. I love you Indiblogger.

Ganesha
This is not solely my own creation, I found an image similar to this in web, and liked it so much that wanted to paint it on my T- Shirt. Who so ever actually originally created it want to thank him for it, what a wonderful job. Also this is no piracy, this is just a gesture of honest appreciation that I have for your artwork. I couldn't think of a better way to appreciate you work than trying to imitate it on my T-Shirt.

I am confused...
The artwork represents the confused human mind. Each color represents the thought. Black and the grey are representation of indecisiveness. When we are confused, lots of thoughts go in the mind and everything appears to be disturbed as shown in the artwork. None of the stroke is complete, each stroke is intersected by another, and this is how mind is, each thought is intersected by another…
